ICE removes Bahamian national wanted for homicide
PHILADELPHIA - A Bahamian national, who fled to the United States to avoid a prison sentence on a murder charge in his native country, was turned over to Bahamian authorities Wednesday by officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
Reuben Jason Marshall, 31, entered the United States illegally in 2004. In October 2010 he was encountered by ICE during a local Criminal Alien Program (CAP) operation, and subsequently placed in ICE custody in December 2010. In February, an immigration judge granted him Voluntary Departure from the United States.
While Marshall has no criminal history in the United States, the Magistrate of New Providence, Bahamas Islands had issued a warrant to apprehend Marshall on homicide charges.
"This removal underscores the fact that ICE is securing our community while enabling the Bahamian justice system to run its course," said Thomas Decker, field office director for ICE ERO in Philadelphia. "ICE is focused on sensible, effective immigration enforcement that prioritizes efforts first on those serious criminal aliens who present the greatest risk to the security of our communities."
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security.
ICE is a 21st century law enforcement agency with broad responsibilities for a number of key homeland security priorities. For more information, visit www.ICE.gov. To report suspicious activity, call 1-866-347-2423.
