ICE seeks contractor-owned detention facility for 700 detainees in south Florida

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE, wants to lay its hands on a contractor-owned detention facility somewhere in southern Florida, within 50 miles of the ICE field office in Plantation, FL, capable of accommodating 700 “low and medium low level” detainees.
“ICE is seeking an existing facility,” explained the agency’s notice, which was dated December 4.
“New construction will not be considered.”
The facility will accommodate detainees in ICE’s custody, but no non-ICEdetainees, the notice adds.
The agency, a unit of DHS, anticipates awarding a six-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to the winning candidate. That contract will include a two-month transition period, 10-month base period and five 12-month option periods.
“The proposed facility must also be within close proximity to emergency services (medical, fire protection and law enforcement, etc.) and access to airport services for transportation requirements,” the ICE notice explains.
