Border Patrol disrupts human smuggling attempts, rescues immigrants

    September 24, 2018

Border Patrol agents in Laredo rescued more than 100 immigrants after disrupting two smuggling attempts in the last two days.

On Sunday, agents were conducting immigration inspections at the Interstate 35 checkpoint, when they discovered 65 immigrants being smuggled inside of a tractor trailer.

Border Patrol officials say the temperature inside the trailer was more than 90 degrees when the immigrants were found, but none required medical attention.

Agents again discovered immigrants hidden inside of a tractor trailer at about 2:30 a.m. Monday. Agents referred the truck to secondary inspection, where 49 immigrants were found inside of a refrigerated trailer.

According to Border Patrol, the temperature inside the trailer was 59 degrees when the immigrants were found. None required medical attention.

Border Patrol says all 114 immigrants were taken into custody.

There they go again with the RESCUE and the IMMIGRANTS.

They are not IMMIGRANTS they are INVADERS.

These articles would lead one to believe someone is holding a gun to the head of 114 invaders and forcing them to get in that truck.

These are INVADERS and no one is forcing them in the truck, they are just as guilty as the smugglers.

I agree, these are not rescues. 59 and 90 degrees are not typically considered life threatening.

The border zone surrounding the United States extends 100 miles inland for good reason. Many illegals are caught and illegal smuggling rings (drugs and people) are busted within the 100 mile zone.

BP tracks people from the border, performs patrols of isolated areas such as back roads, ravines, and brush filled open areas, follow known smuggling trails, sets up traffic checkpoints, do transportation checks at bus stations, train stations, and airports. It's basically a layered approach that serves a very useful purpose.

The problem isn't the areas of responsibility for BP, it's the lack of agents. 21,000 BP agents just isn't enough to adequately cover their areas of responsibility. However, their ability to function off the border is necessary. For instance, we already know we are woefully undermanned where ICE agents are concerned. The first 100 miles is the last best opportunity to catch groups of illegals and trafficked drugs before they vanish into our interior.

There can't be an arbitrary line drawn at the border that limits our BP agents to yards instead of miles. Do that and we'll have a lot more drugs and illegals disappearing into our interior.

Where are we now with the catch and release? With 2,000 caught in 3 days from just one location, 114 here , and all the others. How many if any are being detained?
