July 20, 2015 – ICE deports alleged Cuban human trafficker to Ecuador to face criminal charges
A Cuban national linked to a human trafficking ring allegedly responsible for trafficking Cuban women to Ecuador and forcing them into prostitution was removed July 17 by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers from New Orleans, Louisiana. Full Story
July 20, 2015 – ICE special agents complete Protective Security Operations Training Program

A Mexican national, who is wanted in his native country for murder, was handed over to Mexican law enforcement officials July 15 by ICE, less than two weeks after his capture in Phoenix. Full Story

ICE, CBP seize illegally imported ancient Roman coins
The ancient coins were originally detained in early July during a routine inspection at the Port of Cincinnati cargo facility by CBP officers before the investigation was turned over to HSI. The intended recipient told investigators the coins were of Middle Eastern origin based on information received from an overseas seller.

ICE officers deport Mexican man wanted for aggravated murder
William Antonio Martinez-Aguilar, 36, was turned over to Mexican Procuraduria General De La Repubilca (PGR) and Interpol officers without incident through the Nogales, DeConcini Port of Entry in Arizona on July 21 about 3 p.m.

ENFORCEMENT AND REMOVAL
2 Central American fugitives removed by ICE
On July 17, officers removed Alexander Mendoza-Hernandez to El Salvador, where he was wanted for extortion. In a separate case, Cesar David Rodriguez Lopez, of Guatemala, was wanted by Guatemalan authorities on three criminal warrants for charges involving embezzlement, fraud and forged documents.

Owner of employee leasing company sentenced for immigration, tax fraud scheme
Kim Meas, 60, a native of Cambodia, pleaded guilty November 24, 2014, to two counts of conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, two counts of transporting illegal aliens and two counts of failure to collect and pay federal income and employment taxes.

Justin Ryan Serna, 28, of Corpus Christi, was taken into custody July 23 and is expected to make his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Janice Ellington the same day.

ICE deports Mexican national wanted for murder
Lucio Quiroz-Beltran, 41, was transferred by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers to the custody of representatives from the Mexican Attorney General’s Office at the Nogales-Grand Avenue port of entry. Quiroz is charged in an arrest warrant issued in November 2014 with a homicide committed in Sinaloa, Mexico, in April 2014.

Illegal wildlife trade has reached alarming levels globally. The Global March for Elephants and Rhinos report that one elephant is killed every 15 minutes and one rhino is killed every nine to 11 hours. Each year, more than 35,000 elephants are killed for their ivory tusks and more than 1,000 rhinos are killed for their horns. Experts predict that if the mass slaughter continues, these beautiful creatures will soon become extinct.

Ryan Anthony Winner of Olney, Texas, 33, was arrested July 20 and made his initial appearance Tuesday in federal court in Wichita Falls, Texas, where U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert K. Roach ordered that he remain in federal custody pending a probable cause and detention hearing set for July 28.

ICE deports alleged Cuban human trafficker to Ecuador to face criminal charges
Yoeldis Melian-Mastrapa, 29, is the latest removal among eight Cuban nationals implicated in a human trafficking ring that allegedly operated in Ecuador. The ring was discovered in December 2013 as a result of a joint investigation between ICE HSI Attaché Office in Ecuador and the Ecuadorian government.

Edwin Fernandez, 37, was bringing dozens of kilos of cocaine into United States via Philadelphia International Airport from the Dominican Republic. About 70 kilograms of cocaine in Philadelphia and the Dominican Republic was intercepted during the seizure and investigation.

Captured predator pleads guilty to manufacturing child pornography
William Akers, 46, was arrested by special agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) hours after law enforcement made a public appeal to identify a man seen in a video sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl. The case was investigated by HSI, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office and the Raleigh Police Department.

Velez-Rive of the District of Puerto Rico to three counts of bulk cash smuggling and one count of theft of government property. Afghan Heroin Conspiracy Foiled
JUL 17 (WASHINGTON)
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) today announced charges against three significant Afghan heroin traffickers, two of which were arrested in Thailand and subsequently brought to the United States. Haji Lajaward, Amal Said Said Alam Shah, a/k/a "Haji Zar Mohammad," and Habibullah were charged with conspiring to import heroin into the United States. Lajaward and Shah were arrested in Thailand on June 13, 2015, and subsequently brought to the United States. They will be presented and arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald L. Ellis this afternoon. Habibullah remains at large.
