"xenophobic paranoid" ...."loons" ~ I like th way that rolls off the tongue. It's almost poetic {GRIN} Considering some of the names I've been called, this is "almos" acompliment.

Rather than argue about the "actual" number of illegal aliens, we should focus on solutions. Good solutions will be required, no matter it it 12 million, 20 million or 60 million IAs.

If we work together to vote for representatives that OPPOSE illegal immigration and support programs like E-verify, the solution becoms possible. If we fight about te actual number of IAs, that doesn't accomplish anything.

Judy: You obviously feel pretty strongly about this, as do a lot of others on this forum. I'm just asking a question here, and I figure if anyone can answer it, you can. The question is, just what kinds of problems do you think this biometric ID card could cause?

A biometric national ID gives the federal government the power to profile, target and track any person or groups it doesn't like.

It gives the federal government the information it needs to manipulate our citizens even more than we're manipulated now.

It gives them the means to breach the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th Amendment and 6th Amendments to the US Constitution.

It gives them the right to sell the information to anyone willing to pay for it.

Couldn't this also be a good thing, e.g., in tracking criminal organizations and terrorist groups?

Can you give me some examples?

I've never heard of the government selling personal information, but maybe I just don't know. I'm not trying to argue with you here, I'm just trying to get a better handle on this whole issue.

    1. No, it won't be helpful. Do you really think criminal organizations are going to sign up for a National Biometric ID that the US government can track?

    2. Isn't the purpose of the National Biometric ID to track US citizens so the government knows their every move? Well, if the US government knows your every move and wants to move you in another direction, won't it pass laws and regulations to achieve that goal?

    3. If the US government knows that you attended a protest or traveled to the site of the protest or stayed at a hotel where your protest group had a meeting to squelch your dissent, won't it put you on an Extremist List and call your employer where it knows you work and do all types of various and sundry things to try to ruin you to shut down your dissent and violate your 1st amendment rights? If you want to buy a gun, won't it flag your ID as a "no sale"? Hasn't it already violated your 4th Amendment rights tracking you without a warrant? Hasn't it already violated your 5th Amendment using your entire private life it now has access to without a warrant to use against you in a court of law?

    4. Yes, the US government already sells every piece of personal information it has on you. In fact, several million personal records sold to CitiBank about 3 years ago on a disc were lost by a UPS truck, never to be found. They sell the records to banks, Lexus-Nexus, ChoicePoint, and every other private database that wants the data and is willing to pay for it.
