IL - Cops: Previously deported man arrested in Elgin following traffic stop

    September 22, 2015
    Janelle Walker

A man who was previously deported from the U.S. was arrested by Elgin police Saturday following a traffic stop when police discovered the man had been using false identities to prevent his arrest on an outstanding theft warrant, Elgin officials said.

Police then discovered the man had received jobs and workers compensation payments using the false identity.

Miguel Sanson-Becerra, 41, of the 1100 block of Fleetwood Drive, Elgin, was charged with a Class X felony count of identity theft over $100,000, a Class 1 felony count of insurance fraud, a Class 2 felony count of using a false name, a Class 3 felony count of possession of a fraudulent identification card to commit a felony, and Class 4 counts of possession of a fraudulent drivers license and making a false application.

According to Elgin police, Becerra was stopped at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday on a driving under the influence investigation. The vehicle was registered to the name Hector Lebron Sanchez, with an insurance card and license with that name. He was released on $300 bond for those charges. However, the man's estranged wife told police he was using a false name to avoid the active warrant.

Police continued to investigate and learned Becerra had been deported in 2001, had a prior arrest for child abduction, and was wanted for questioning in Kane County for a criminal sexual assault of a child case. Police found Becerra had used four fake names, two different birth dates and various social security numbers to hide his identity.

Police re-interviewed Becerra on Monday, where he admitted buying new identification in Puerto Rico for $500. Since his reentry into the U.S. Becerra had used the false information to get utilities, rent apartments, purchase cars, finance a $10,000 car loan, obtain a driver's license and state ID card and obtain employment.

While working for a roofing company, he received $120,000 in workers compensation claims, police said.

Bail was set at $200,000, and he was given an Oct. 8 court date. He was also held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Twenty thousand cash bond on all those charges? They want that one to run again, they do not want to house and feed him for life. What a nation - yikes I live in it.

Yep, he's just a good, hard working person who came here for a better life. Wonder whose credit he has messed up using fake birth certificates and SSNs? The US will never get back the taxpayers' money he stole.
