Thread: Jeff Sessions, DHS' Kelly to visit U.S.-Mexico border this week

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly will visit the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday, in an effort to check in on efforts to boost border security, according to a Justice Department spokeswoman.

Sessions and Kelly "will be traveling to the border areas in El Paso and San Diego in their continued collaboration to secure the border and prosecute offenders," department spokeswoman Sarah Flores told the Washington Examiner by email.

This will be their first joint visit to America's southern border.

Sessions visited the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona last week, where he outlined a new comprehensive approach for prosecutions of illegal immigrants. He urged federal attorneys to prioritize immigration as a way to charge border crosses with felonies.

"This is a new era. This is the Trump era," Sessions said in Nogales, Ariz. "The lawlessness, the abdication of the duty to enforce our immigration laws, and the catch-and-release practices of old are over."
