News Advisory:

-- Press Conference to be Held Tomorrow at Downtown Pittsburgh Hilton

Coalition for the Future American Worker will hold a press conference this Wednesday at the downtown Pittsburgh Hilton. The group has been running TV spots in the Pittsburgh area since Nov. 22. Response to the ads has been overwhelming and positive. The TV spot features American workers urging President Bush to stem the flow of foreign workers, citing wage depression, job displacement and 12 million Americans unable to find a full time job. Pittsburgh workers have recently been hit by layoff announcements including cuts at U.S. Air and GM.

Despite the layoffs, Chairman of the Judiciary committee, Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter has proposed increases in foreign worker flows that amount to the largest increase in immigration in the history of the country. His proposal will award amnesty to 11 million illegal aliens and double the flow of legal foreign workers and relatives, increasing immigration from the current 1 million per year to 2 million per year. Specter will preside over any change in immigration law via his position as Senate Judiciary Chairman. CFAW will confront Specter's proposal and insist on public hearings regarding the unprecedented effects of the proposal.

Additionally, in a speech Monday in Arizona, President Bush called for what amounts to a six-year amnesty for 11 million illegal foreign workers and an unlimited increase in foreign workers. CFAW will confront the President's program at the press conference.

CFAW believes monumental changes like those proposed by the Chairman Specter and President Bush deserve thorough public debate. The changes are completely contrary to the wishes of a majority of Americans and will dramatically hurt the American worker.
