PIERRE | A Mexican couple who pleaded guilty to stealing more than $2,000 from a Pierre bank last November has been sentenced to time behind bars and will face deportation.
KCCR radio reports that 37-year-old Ismael Espinoza Ortiz was sentenced to seven years each for bank larceny and illegal re-entry after deportation, with the sentences to be served concurrently.
Twenty-six-year-old Alejandra Corral Madrid was sentenced to time served plus one day.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges says Ortiz reached under the teller window and took the money from the BankWest Pierre branch Nov. 5 as an employee was using a bill counting machine. Dilges says Madrid aided in the robbery.
The two fled and later were arrested in Campbell County.
