Illegal alien charged with sexually assaulting 'physically helpless' woman in NC

On Thursday, police in Jacksonville formally charged Cesar Patlan Lopez, 33, after he reportedly sexually assaulted a woman more than a month earlier.

He has been in custody since Feb. 2, when the assault occurred.

Lopez committed multiple sex acts with a woman "who was at the time physically helpless," according to a police report.

The Daily News reported:

Jacksonville Police Department spokeswoman Beth Purcell said the woman was sleeping during the alleged incident.

Lopez has been charged with a second-degree sex offense as well as several drug offenses. He is currently being held at the Onslow county Jail on an ICE detainer.

Lopez, who has asked for a court appointed lawyer, is scheduled for a preliminary gearing on April 3.
