CONCORD, N.H. — An illegal alien who had been living in Lawrence tried Wednesday morning to renew a New Hampshire driver's license at the Division of Motor Vehicles, state police said.

Yoel Elieser Romero, 34, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Escarlyn Javier, 26, also of Lawrence, who brought Romero to the Division of Motor Vehicles and helped him fill out an application for license renewal, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit unsworn falsification, state police said.

Troop G of the New Hampshire State Police was alerted at 10:41 a.m. Wednesday that a man who identified himself as Japhet Cancel Hernendez, 31, of Lawrence, was attempting to renew a driver's license at the Division of Motor Vehicles.

State Police Sgt. Andrew Player went to the DMV office and determined that the man had provided false documents, state police said. Player also discovered Javier's role in the the man's attempt to get a renewed license.

With the help of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Division of Motor Vehicles, officers found that "Japhet Cancel Hernandez" was really Romero and that he had entered the United States illegally, state police said.

Javier was released on $500 cash bail. She will be arraigned in the 6th Circuit, District Division, Concord Court on May 15.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call Player at 603-223-8778.
