Illegal Alien Responsible For 07' Crash

COLORADO SPRINGS - A family is seeking justice after an illegal immigrant crashed into their van in 2007.

A trailer struck Holly Taylor and her family after a truck ran a red light on Powers and Barnes. Carlos Guillen, the driver at fault, caused the damage of 8 vehicles and is responsible for sending 6 people to the hospital.

One of the injured was 16-year-old April Allen. She was ejected from her mother's van. "Because of the blow, the engine block exploded so all the hot oil was going down my back," said Allen. She suffered third degree burns on her back and shoulders. "I also had to get 2 staples in my knee and 2 in my head." One year later, Allen is still going to the doctor. "I get headaches constantly, my muscles aren't doing what they're supposed to anymore," stated Allen.

Taylor tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 that Guillen is an illegal immigrant and has now fled the country. He was supposed to be in court in July for his sentencing hearing. He's facing 60 days in jail and 5 years probation.

"If he's left the country, there's a possibility his insurance will not pay out anything at all. So where's the legal ramifications for him, where's the justice," stated Taylor.

In the meantime, Taylor's insurance has been covering medical expenses. She has Uninsured/Underinsured Motor Coverage. This coverage helps people to protect themselves in case they get into an accident with someone who either has no auto insurance or doesn't have enough coverage.

"His insurance?" Did he have a valid drivers license? If not, how in the world can an insurance company enter into an agreement to provide auto insurance to someone who is not even legally allowed to operate a vehicle on the states highways!

This needs to be investigated further!

That's why I asked the question, DID he have a Valid drivers license? I would also want to know if he was the primary insured under the policy. I'm not questioning his ablity to get insurance, or even his right to have it, if in fact he had a valid drivers license.

Sickening, the devastation that these illegal drivers spread. I have 3 members in my family in 3 different states who have been in accidents caused by illegals. One has back injuries that he will suffer with all his life. The illegals cause the accidents than disappear. AND THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT CRIMINALS!!!!

Two million alcohol impaired driving collisions occur each year.

Of every 200 to 2,000 alcohol impaired drivers on the road, only one is arrested. Therefore, the probability of getting caught is slim. Of those who are caught, very few receive a serious penalty.

i dont neccesarily think that illegals are the only ones driving drunk and killing /'"hurting" people in accidents...these statistics are nation wide as in its not only "mexicans" its also caucasions ...afro americans etc....i like how much ignorance is put into these forums

FYI...no one can get a drivers license with out providing social security card....not a copy.....or resident card ...or birth cirtificate....therefore he must have been "LEGAL" and if any of this wasnt real and they still gave him the liscence...then who ever issued it to him was just plain stupid....

I don't recall anyone ever making the claim the only ones who engage in dangerous behavior, resulting in accidents were illegal invaders. Please direct us to the post that has indicated as such.

Further, any accident involving an illegal invader is one that should have never happened since they had no legal right to be in this country to begin with. Are you suggesting illegal invaders should get a free pass because there are American citizens who also engage in reckless behavior?

Depends on what state the drivers license is issued in. Identification requirements are governed by the state and vary by state and there are a few states that continue to give licenses to illegal aliens.
