CHARLESTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) — Federal immigration officials said a total of 35 foreign nationals from West Virginia were arrested in a 10-day sweep that ended Wednesday.

There were 186 total arrests made in five states during the sweep, according to a news release from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The arrests were part of targeted enforcement aimed at criminal aliens, immigration fugitives, re-entrants and other immigration violators, the release said.

Of those arrests, 141 were in Pennsylvania, with 35 in West Virginia, eight in Delaware and one each in New Jersey and Maryland, ICE officials said.

The release said 58 of those arrested had criminal convictions, 42 had pending criminal charges, 37 had previously been removed from the United States and later illegally re-entered and 26 were immigration fugitives with outstanding final orders of removal issued by a federal immigration judge, the release said.

Three of the cases were accepted by U.S. attorneys for charges that include re-entry after removal and document fraud, the release said.
