Illegal Aliens Are Collecting Valuable Social Security Benefits

Social Security is rapidly moving towards bankruptcy – benefit cuts have been openly discussed at every level of government – and by members of both parties. Meanwhile, a treaty is pending that will make millions of Mexican immigrants and their dependents eligible for Social Security benefits, including an “unknownâ€

If you're rich or very well off, this may be of no interest to you. But many working Americans work all their lives, paying into this system and it is the one thing that they have to depend on when they retire. It may be all they have. And if this is what you have to depend on when you retire, and their is nothing left of it , your life will be a nightmare. No illegal alien should be able to participate in Social Security. This is the only thing many Americans can depend on after a lifetime of work.

Ack this is awful. Is this treaty schedule for a vote? I am sure OBAMA will vote for it.

I have already E-MAIL my congress people - not sure how much good it will do -- esp. Ben Cardin who is for all this junk.

    S. 43 -- the Senate Version blocking totalization agreements is bottled in Senator Dodd's finance committee.

The House version HR 279 is languishing in the House Subcomittee on Social Secruity

Doubt these bills will get out of committe this session

The rules on these agreements are:

In the United States, once the agreement is signed, the President will submit the agreement to Congress where it must sit in review for 60 session days. If Congress takes no action during this time, the agreement can move forward.

We simply cannot have totalization agreements with every country. There are a relative handful with which we do and they are of a similar economic level. Or benefits systems is already being plundered by individuals who migrate here, acquire benefits and them return home where the money goes much further, and they still have somewhat of a safety network. I have heard of this happening with Russians. I am sure there are others who do it.

Mexicans have assumed a risk to come here and work illegally. It is a business decision which has inherent costs, just as Americans assume costs if their plant closes or their office moves them elsewhere. Our social welfare system was never designed to accomodate a large group of people who have spotted the opportunity of their own lifetime and moved in to exploit it.
