Woman may be deported for role in marriage fraud

A Kearns woman was sentenced Monday to the 10 months she already has served in jail for arranging a sham marriage for her Venezuelan boyfriend.
Eva Daisy Aguilar, who apologized for her actions before U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell imposed the sentence, now could be deported to her native El Salvador. The 52-year-old is a legal U.S. resident but immigration officials have argued she forfeited her right to stay because of her crime.
Aguilar, who worked as a wedding planner, had pleaded guilty to marriage fraud for setting up a marriage that would allow her boyfriend, Gassan Hassan Said, 36, to live and work in the United States. Said married her son's girlfriend, who allegedly told investigators the marriage was never consummated and that she married for insurance coverage that would allow her to obtain insulin for her diabetes.
Prosecutors say Said entered the United States in 2004 and stayed after his visa expired. He pleaded guilty to marriage fraud in August and also was sentenced to time served; immigration authorities have started deportation proceedings against him.
Aguilar was convicted in 2001 of marriage fraud for setting up a sham union between a U.S. citizen and an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. Authorities began deportation proceedings then but closed the case while she appealed. The matter fell through the cracks and was not revived until the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the appeal in 2003.

Kearns used to be a nice place until it was turned into a little Tijuana. I can see why Kearns is now a third world ghetto.

That's a good story in that it shows that legal permanent residents can be deported if the nature of the law breaking act warrants such thing.

She had two bites of the apple already! She had better be deported this time and not simply, "fall through the cracks."
