FORT LAUDERDALE
Police on Friday identified a suspect in last week's hit-and-run incident that injured a 13-year-old boy.

But the suspected driver may not be in the country legally, complicating detectives' efforts to find and arrest him.

Iver Siu, who is believed to frequent the Lake Worth area, has false resident alien documentation, according to police. His exact age is not known. He is believed to be 25-30 years old.

The April 22 accident took place in the 1200 block of State Road 84, where Alex Enriquez, 13, was crossing the westbound lanes. Police say Enriquez was struck by a maroon 2001 Dodge minivan that kept going even though he was on the hood.

Enriquez fell off when the driver applied the brakes, and the minivan took off, according to a search warrant. A witness called 911 and followed the minivan into Plantation, where the vehicle stopped at a parking lot in the 6200 block of Southwest 16th Street, according to the warrant. The driver ran away, and police impounded the minivan.

Enriquez was admitted to Broward General Medical Center and later released.

The minivan's owner was not the driver, according to the warrant. But aside from a name and photo, police released little information about Siu.

Police ask anyone who recognizes Siu or knows where he is to call the Police Department at 954-828-5754 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
