NC: House Dems file bill to keep IAs in NC higher educ.

    The Charlotte Observer
May 28, 2008, at the North Carolina General Assembly

-House Democrats file bill to keep illegal immigrants in NC higher education

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS: Several House Democrats have filed a bill designed to help illegal immigrants remain in North Carolina's community colleges and public universities. The measure would bar officials from asking potential students about their immigration status as part of any admissions policy. The community college system ordered all campuses last year to admit illegal immigrants, but it reversed the policy a few weeks ago while federal officials formally weigh in on the matter. University of North Carolina system campuses haven't stopped admitting illegal immigrants at out-of-state tuition rates.

RALEIGH, N.C. --Several House members want to keep illegal immigrants in North Carolina's community colleges and public universities by barring officials from asking potential students about their immigration status.

The bill filed this week by Democrats differs from two bills filed earlier by Republicans which attempt to bar admission for these immigrants by putting it in state law.

University of North Carolina system campuses haven't stopped admitting illegal immigrants at out-of-state tuition rates.

The bill's primary sponsors are Rep. Pricey Harrison of Guilford County, Paul Luebke of Durham County, Rick Glazier of Cumberland County, and Dan Blue of Wake County.

They need a "out of country" rate, since IA's are in that category. It's against federal law and a violation of the equal protection clause. If you offer it to them, then you have to offer it to everybody out of state.

It also states and is the law in the "Immigration Nationality Act of 1996" if a college gives instate tuition to an illegal alien they MUST give it to citizens from other states.....BUT they should not be in our colleges at all unless they are here on a student visa!
