SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A major tea party rally planned for Sacramento this weekend represents a key opportunity to re-energize supporters in the final weeks before the November election.

Organizers expect between 25,000 and 50,000 people to attend Sunday's rally, "United to the Finish." It is one of three such events scheduled around the country and organized by the national Tea Party Patriots group.

The stated objective is to protest what the movement characterizes as big government and to remind Americans of the unity immediately after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Despite the unity theme, the lineup contains only conservative speakers.

The mostly Republican movement had some effect in California's GOP primaries, but it's unclear whether it can have a significant influence in the Nov. 2 general election.
