Luis Bracamontes, an illegal immigrant from Mexico accused of killing two cops, laughed during his trial proceedings on Tuesday and threatened to break out of prison soon to kill more cops.
One of Bracamontes' lawyers told the jury that his client did murder Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer Deputy Michael Davis Jr. back in 2014 during his daylong spree of violence, according to the Sacramento Bee.
"Let me be clear and up front," defense lawyer Jeffrey Barbour said. "Mr. Bracamontes is responsible for the death of Deputy Danny Oliver and Detective Michael Davis."
"He shot them both," he added.
Barbour's admission about Bracamontes occurred shortly after his client repeatedly interrupted courtroom proceedings to disparage his victims.
"I wish I had killed more of the motherf—ers," he said to the jury. "I will break out soon and I will kill more, kill whoever gets in front of me…There’s no need for a f—ing trial."
Bracamontes' outbursts prompted Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White to temporarily remove the jury from the courtroom, so that he could deliver a staunch warning to the defendant, threatening to remove him from the courtroom.
"You will not disrupt this trial, you will not speak out," White told him. "If you do, you will be removed from the courtroom."
Barbour and his partner Norm Dawson then asked White if he could reconsider his previous finding of Bracamontes being mentally competent to stand trial after questioning whether he was sane.
"Your motion is denied," White told Barbour, allowing the jury to reenter the courtroom and telling them to ignore Bracamontes' outbursts, according to the Bee.
Barbour and Dawson then renewed their efforts, asking the judge if they could enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.
"We believe Mr. Bracamontes' outbursts, his laughter, are a function of his mental illness…," Barbour said.
But the judge was having none of it, noting that the issue already had been litigated in previous hearings and that if Bracamontes chooses not to help his lawyers that's up to him. "He is not incompetent to stand trial," White declared.
This is not the first time that Bracamontes has threatened to kill more cops. Last June, he said that he will kill more of them if he "get[s] the chance." He went on to say that he doesn't regret his actions.
Bracamontes, 37, faces the death penalty and his wife, Janelle Monroy, 41, faces life in prison if they are convicted of the two murders and wounding several other people.
The widows of Davis and Oliver—Jessica Davis and Susan Oliver—were special guests at President Donald Trump's first address to a joint session of Congress last February. They sat with First Lady Melania Trump.

The aunt of a police officer killed in 2014 by an illegal immigrant in California expressed her anger and disgust Thursday after the suspect's profane outburst in court this week.
The defendant, Luis Enrique Monroy Bracamontes, 37, called one of the officers a "coward" and said, "I wish I had killed more of the mother-------s."
If convicted, Bracamontes could face the death penalty for murdering the two officers, Detective Michael Davis Jr. and Deputy Sheriff Danny Oliver, on the same day in Oct. 2014.
Bracamontes, who has admitted to the killings in previous hearings, also wounded Oliver's partner, Scott Brown.

Davis' aunt, Pam Davis Owens, joined "Fox & Friends" on Thursday, saying her "blood is boiling" after Bracamontes' disgusting proclamations.
"Illegal alien: call it what it is," she said, taking issue with California's decision to become a sanctuary for so-called undocumented immigrants.
Her 43-year-old nephew's killer had already been deported several times before the killings. Owens asked why the case has taken more than three years to get to trial.
"I want him to get the death penalty and I want to be there to watch him draw his last breath."
Owens said she and everyone she knows supports the Trump administration's position against sanctuary cities, calling for criminal prosecutions of officials responsible for the policies.

Prosecutor: Man in US illegally meant to kill deputies

A man who came to the U.S. illegally had "nothing but hate" when he killed two California sheriff's deputies, prosecutors said in closing arguments Thursday in a case that has helped fuel the national debate on immigration.
Authorities say defendant Luis Bracamontes intentionally shot Sacramento County Deputy Danny Oliver in 2014 then killed Placer County Detective Michael Davis Jr. hours later.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Bracamontes, who has repeatedly blurted out in court that he killed the deputies and wished he had killed more.
He sat quietly during closing arguments, The Sacramento Bee reported , in contrast to the outbursts that repeatedly led Judge Steve White to bar him from the courtroom.
Defense attorneys said Bracamontes should be spared because he is mentally ill and was high on methamphetamine at the time.
Public defender Norm Dawson told jurors it's "a tragic fact" that his client shot both deputies.
"Mr. Bracamontes clearly was not in his right mind," Dawson said. "His mind was altered."
But the judge found Bracamontes is competent to stand trial, and Bracamontes refused to enter a not guilty plea by reason of insanity.
"This is nothing but willful conduct from start to finish," Placer County prosecutor Dave Tellman argued. "He had the intent to kill."
A separate jury is considering if Bracamontes' wife, Janelle Monroy, helped in the slayings. The deputies were killed shortly after the couple arrived in Sacramento from Utah.
Bracamontes is a Mexican citizen who repeatedly entered the United States illegally. His wife is an American citizen.
A 30-second TV ad aired last month by President Donald Trump's re-election campaign featured Bracamontes and accused Democrats of being "complicit" in the slayings of law enforcement officers by people in the U.S. illegally.
It was released on the anniversary of Trump's inauguration and amid a government shutdown sparked by Democrats' refusal to support a spending plan unless Republicans agreed to protect some 700,000 immigrants from deportation after they were brought to the country as children.
Tellman noted that Bracamontes has made repeated threats against deputies and others since his arrest.
"This is unadulterated hate," Tellman said.
