PATERSON — An illegal immigrant is being held on $50,000 bail after authorities discovered he fraudulently obtained a driver's license.
Nelson Hernandez, 47, presented a stolen birth certificate, among other bogus documents during his February trip to the Motor Vehicles Services Offices in Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement.
He was deported after an arrest for attempting to fraudulently obtain a passport in 2009, but at some point was able to reenter the country and resume living in Paterson.
Hernandez is charged with using documents pertaining to another to obtain a driver's license and wrongfully impersonating another and performing an act to benefit yourself. If convicted of both crimes, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
