    A man who has ignored the United States immigration law will be deported – all because he obeyed another law.

    Claudio Nunez-Rojas, age 55, is a registered sexual offender for a crime committed in 1983.

    In 2003, Nunez-Rojas was deported from Lee County back to Columbia.

    Lee County deputies figured out that he was smuggled into Texas in a car, returned to Lee County, and decided to voluntarily register as a sex offender, in an effort to obey the law.

    The law caught up with him. He's now in federal custody.
