A 35-year-old man from Michoacan, Mexico, was sentenced this week for re-entering the United States after deportation, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced.

German Sanchez-Guzman was sentenced to 85 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release and ordered to pay $100 special assessment.

According to a news release, Sanchez-Guzman pleaded guilty Feb. 23 to the offense, which occurred Nov. 13 in Sequoyah County.

Sanchez-Guzman was deported from the U.S. on June 9, 1997, after deportation proceedings. His arrest in November alerted the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to his illegal re-entry.

The judge remanded him to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service to begin serving his sentence.
