Illegal immigrant wanted for alleged child molestation in Miner, MO found in Kansas City

MINER, MO (KFVS) -
Miner police say an illegal immigrant who they were investigating for crimes involving minors has been found in Kansas City, Missouri.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department served a search warrant and arrested Julio R. Sales.

A warrant was obtained for Sales for child molestation first degree, with bond set at $25,000 cash only.

The warrant stemmed from an investigation being conducted by the Miner Police Department into accusations of Sales and his conduct involving young minor children.

According to a probable cause statement, police were notified on May 26 by Division of Family Services that a 10-year-old had told them about sexual abuse allegedly perpetrated by Sales. The disclosure was made in Dyersburg, TN and reported to Missouri DFS.

Officers then went to the home of the victim to speak with the mother, who claimed she wasn't aware of the abuse.

The mother then made arrangements for the victim to stay at a relative's house. While making those arrangements, a 12-year-old sibling of the victim was also staying at the house, who said they had also been sexually abused at the hands of Sales.

During subsequent SAFE/NASV examinations of the victims on June 2, the 10-year-old told officials that Sales had squeezed her chest (over her clothes) more than three times while they were living in Miner. She also told police that Sales had a habit of sexually abusing her when he became drunk, which he did frequently.

The victim said that she regularly attempted to push Sales away when he did this, and he would respond by putting a finger to her lips and "shushing" her.

The 12-year-old told officials that Sales had molested her more than 5 times in 2016, touching her genital area with his hands, with the most recent incident happening "a couple months ago," and that she told Sales that the sexual contact was unwanted.

She also said that the other victim - her 10-year-old sister - had previously told her that Sales sexually abused her.

Officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the Miner Police Department attempted to apprehend Sales on June 2, however it was later discovered that he fled the area, reportedly towards Kansas City.

Sales is awaiting extradition from Jackson County to the Scott County Sheriffs Department.

He is facing nine counts of child molestation in the first degree.
