Illegal immigration across the Southwest border has surged back to Obama-era levels, according to the latest data released Friday that suggests the gains President Trump made early in his tenure have worn off.

Nearly 40,000 illegal immigrants were nabbed attempting to jump the border in November, which was up about 12 percent compared to October, and more than twice the monthly numbers from March and April, when Mr. Trump touted his early accomplishments.

Perhaps just as worrisome for officials is the rise in families traveling together, which surged 45 percent last month, and unaccompanied minors traveling without parents, which rose 26 percent in November.

Homeland Security said overall things are still an improvement over the worst years of President Obama.

“Under President Trump, illegal immigration has declined dramatically over the last year,” said spokesman Tyler Q. Houlton.

But he said more needs to be done, and said action needs to come from Capitol Hill.

“The administration is working tirelessly to secure the border, enhance interior enforcement and establish a merit-based immigration system. But we need Congress to act immediately to close immigration loopholes, fund the border wall, terminate outdated visa programs and provide the necessary tools for DHS officials to carry out their mission,” Mr. Houlton said.

The 39,006 people caught in November included 29,086 caught by the Border Patrol, and 9,920 who tried to come through official ports of entry without permission. The total is still less than 2015 or 2016, but is more than 2012, 2013 or 2014, signaling a return to Obama-era levels of illegal immigration on the border.

Just last week the Trump administration crowed over its gains, pointing to a nearly 30 percent decline in people being caught at the border compared to the previous year. But they did say they were “very concerned” by the latest trends, which have been born out in Friday’s numbers.

CBP officials said cartels have figured out how to “exploit legal and policy loopholes” in the U.S. to get illegal immigrants into the country and give them a chance to blend into the shadows.

In addition to more migrants, border agents and officers are catching more opioids, heroin and cocaine being smuggled from Mexico to the U.S.

They know - trump is all talk no action. Gee, a year has passed and we were all wondering if ALL ILLEGALS WOULD BE GONE BY NOW OR IF IT WOULD TAKE 2 YRS - EXCUSE ME, but we have been had! All but few known criminals are still here and plopping out them taxpayer funded babies - the UAC central americans too - oh yeah, we love paying extra for all the english second language special teachers too - NOT!

Watch the continued rise in your property taxes, city, state taxes. The federal gov't is only covering a small cost of illegals/uac schooling & healthcare NOW and they plan on dumping more of that on to the states AS THE FEDERAL GOV'T STILL DOES NOT ENFORCE OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS!!!!

That's because they hear all talk of Amnesty.

And that is exactly why we should not grant amnesty to anyone.

That and the fact that a lot of them have figured out Trump is more bark than bite .... catch & release still exist, unaccompanied children still coming and being sent to their illegal parents by our government, families still crossing the border and being released because we don't have the facilities to hold them for deportation. Most of those being released pending a court date will never show and the Trump administration knows this.

President Trump speaks of amnesty. He supports a DACA amnesty and has also said we can pass a larger amnesty in a couple years when the border is secure. What that does is entice the illegals to get here before the serious amnesty talks for the masses starts. Basically, it's get here now and have your place in line reserved.

So glad to see this type of reporting. I've always wondered what the ratio was between caught sneaking over the border and caught by illegal entries through the official ports of entry. Based on these November 2017 numbers, the ratio is 75% border and 25% ports of entry. To me, this 25% is a very interesting number and I would like to see it broken down into the where and how. I assume this number includes a truck loaded up with illegal aliens hiding in the trailer on top of the broccoli caught at a port of entry as well as someone hiding on a ship or somehow using fake documents to get on a plane. Would like to see the breakdown on this 25%.

Also, it's my opinion that there are 3 things we can always count on. First, illegal aliens will never self-deport in large numbers. Second, they will never stop trying to come here. Third, they will never take "deported" seriously and will always try to come back.

These are law breaking con artist gypsies. They have never known their own place, they were gypsies in their home country and they come here being gypsies. They hold an arrogance that drives them to do these awful things to nations like ours, they consider their own needs and wants as more important than the laws of a nation or the needs and wants, jobs and property, and peace of mind of the citizens of the nations they invade.

Growing up I heard all my life, once a thief, always a thief. An illegal alien is a thief and once a thief, always a thief. They believe they are entitled to your stuff, whatever it is, your job, your house, your country, your benefits, your resources, your political system, your schools, your food, your water, your medical care, whatever you have, they want, and because they want it, they will take it.

Illegal aliens are huge criminal gangs with their own culture and networks, a culture and network that wrecked their own countries and they've come here to wreck ours.

Illegal aliens are big loud mouth, two-legged wrecking balls.

Our jobs as Americans forever will be to GET THEM OUT AND KEEP THEM OUT. This is not a paperwork white collar desk job task deal, it's a physical confrontational boots on the ground deal and will always be. It's why Eisenhower's program worked and Reagan's failed.

Yeah, they should purge all Medicaid rolls, all USPS records where illegal aliens got passports for their anchor babies, all IRS records for illegal aliens with no match SS numbers, all federally assisted hospitals where they've shown up for emergency care and to give birth, (UGH!). Make huge list, check it twice, and send local and state law enforcement a copy so they can choose to do what they want to do with it, like GO GET THEM and LOCK 'EM UP and call ICE. so simple. But you have to have the boots on the ground, paperwork and white collar tasks won't get them out of the country. This is a physical highly confrontational task, face it, do it, get it done while securing the borders and pots to prevent more new entries and stop re-entries of the people deported.

GET THEM OUT AND KEEP THEM OUT.
