SC lawmakers eye unlicensed drivers
People who drive without a license would face much tougher penalties if some local lawmakers have their way.
Seven members of the S.C. House of Representatives, including five from the Lowcountry, are sponsoring a bill that would increase the fines for unlicensed drivers and make it a felony if they repeatedly drive or if they kill or seriously injure someone while driving. The topic was among issues the Legislative Delegation heard Monday night at its meeting in North Charleston.
The sponsors of the bill include Reps. Chip Limehouse, R-Charleston; David Umphlett, R-Moncks Corner; Wendell Gilliard, D-Charleston; David Mack, D-North Charleston; and Mike Sottile, R-Isle of Palms.
