Driver who fled fatal-crash scene has drunken-driving conviction

The man accused of running a stop sign and causing a crash this week that killed a 17-year-old Port Washington boy is an illegal immigrant who was convicted in Wisconsin in December of first-offense drunken driving, authorities confirmed Friday.

A criminal complaint charging Eddie Carbajal-Lile with hit and run resulting in death also indicates that he consumed five or six beers before the crash Tuesday that killed Paul Watry.

Prosecutors would have needed evidence such as a blood test showing he was intoxicated at the time of the crash to charge Carbajal-Lile with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco said Friday.

Carbajal-Lile is believed to have left the accident scene on foot before sheriff's deputies arrived, and he remained at large Friday.

Hit and run resulting in death is a felony that carries a possible 25-year prison sentence.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Carbajal-Lile, 27. The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department says he may be en route to Mexico. The U.S. Border Patrol has been alerted regarding his status as a fugitive. Carbajal-Lile's last known address is in Fredonia.

He uses a number of aliases, including: Eddie Carbajal; Eddie Lile; Eddie Carbajal-Farvies; Negro Carbajal; Negro Carbajal-Lile; and Negro Lile.

The crash happened about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday at Highway 32 and Highway V in the Town of Lima.

Witnesses told sheriff's deputies that a Nissan Sentra traveling east on Highway V failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a Chevrolet Cavalier traveling south on Highway 32. The Cavalier sustained extensive passenger-side damage, where Watry was seated. Watry died Thursday at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.

Another passenger in the car in which Watry was riding, Jillian Fitzmaurice, 18, of Oostburg, was treated at Froedtert Hospital and released. The driver, Scot Mueller, 18, of Port Washington, was treated at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan and released.

Investigators say Carbajal-Lile was driving the Sentra.

According to the criminal complaint, witnesses at the crash scene suggested that Carbajal-Lile lie down and wait for medical help to arrive. He instead retrieved a cell phone from the car he was driving and walked away east on Highway V.

The criminal complaint quotes Gabriel Anzures, who described himself as a friend of Carbajal-Lile's, as saying he had been drinking with Carbajal-Lile at a tavern in the Town of Sheboygan prior to the crash.

Anzures also told investigators that he received two telephone calls from Carbajal-Lile after the crash. In the first call, Anzures said Carbajal-Lile told him that he had hit something with the car he was driving, a 1997 Nissan Sentra.

Online court records indicate that a man using one of Carbajal-Lile's suspected aliases, as well as his date of birth and address, was convicted in January 2004 of having open intoxicants while a passenger in a motor vehicle.

The records also indicate that in August 2004, a man using one of Carbajal-Lile's suspected aliases as well as his date of birth and address was convicted of having open intoxicants while a passenger in a motor vehicle.

People with information about Carbajal-Lile's whereabouts are asked to call their local law enforcement agency.

Warrant issued for suspect in fatal hit-and-run crash

    Sheboygan Press staff

A judge on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of a 27-year-old Fredonia man suspected of causing a fatal crash in the Town of Lima and then fleeing the scene on foot.

    Eddie Carbajal-Lile

The warrant is for Eddie Carbajal-Lile, whose last known address is 220 Martin Lane, Apt. 2, Fredonia. According to Capt. David Adams of the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, Carbajal-Lile may be attempting to leave the country.

“The main thing right now is we’re trying to get him in custody, before he has a chance to leave the country,â€

When will government officials (all levels) open their eyes and start serving Americans?

    immigration

I am sorry for the family of this young boy, but this is not a reason to go after illegals. It could have been an american just as easy. The fact that it wasn't makes everyone have a reason people to hate the hard working people who come here. Can't blame it on a few bad apples. Maybe if he was sentenced tougher for the first drunk driving this would not have happened. It is not the fact he was illegal, it is because our justice system did not stop him from doing it again...illegal or not, that is not the issue, the issue is drunk driving. We should focus on that, because that is why this precious life has been lost..... DRUNK DRIVING!!!!

My daughter Jillian was the passenger in this car

Three family’s lives were changed forever Tuesday night August 14th at 8:30 pm. My daughter Jillian was one of the three teenagers that were in the vehicle hit by the illegal immigrant who’s name we really don’t know because of all his aliases. He has 2 prior convictions for drunken driving. Why is he on the road? When someone is arrested in our country and they are not a US citizen why do we release them? Why are they allowed to continue to commit crimes in our country?
My daughter was suppose to move into her dorm room today, and start college next week, instead she is in a hospital bed where she has been since Tuesday night, with a broken jaw, huge lacerations all over her face, fractured ribs, burses, cuts and facing having her jaw wired shut next week. Oh and next year she can look forward to plastic surgery to repair her face. Scott the driver had surgery yesterday and you know what Scott and Jillian are the lucky ones. Paul will never go to college he wont even graduate from high school. Three teenagers in a car all with driver’s licenses and auto insurance. How ironic. People can argue all they want that it could have been anyone who hit them, it doesn’t matter that he was illegal. WELL GUESS WHAT YES IT DOES! HE CAN RUN BACK TO HIS COUNTRY AND WE WILL NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN. A US citizen would be convicted of their crime and sent to jail. We as US citizens don’t have a backup country to escape to when we do something illegal. Let all pray that this low life is found and made to pay for his crime!

Marcy, welcome to Alipac! My heart aches for you and your family. I am the mother of a teenager, and can empathize with your feelings. May the Lord bless your daughter with a full recovery from her injuries. My prayers are with you.

sadinwi, you fail to understand that this is more than merely a drunk driving issue. This man should not have been in this country. If you eliminate this particular man from the equation, there is no collision.

Do you not understand that if the borders were secured, and if the U.S. government would do its job and enforce our immigration laws, this man and countless other criminals would not be in this country to rape, murder, steal identities, etc?

No one is disputing the fact that there are many drunk drivers and other misfits who are American citizens. The problem is, there is an epidemic of crimes by illegal aliens, and Americans are dying daily as a result. Each and every crime committed by an illegal, was preventable. We have more than enough of our own criminals, we certainly do not need to allow the scum of Mexico and other countries to stay in our country to wreak havoc.

Anytime an illegal alien is involved in a crime, their illegal status is relevant.

I input these stories over and over and over. It's not just another drunk driving story. The fact is that Americans are held to account for drunk driving and usually obey whatever censure / verdict they get. I say, USUALLY. Our courts, however, are letting the illegal aliens go with small fines, if anything. And the illegal aliens are going from the courtroom right back behind the wheel of a car. That's a fact. I can't remember the specific case... it's in the many stories on my site... but one was let go SEVENTEEN TIMES before he actually killed someone.

BS!! It’s plain and simple!! I’ll go slowly for you! IF THAT ILLEGAL WERE NOT IN THE U S A , THAT BOY WOULD STILL BE ALIVE TODAY!!

That boy and over 40,000 more Americans would still be alive as well. That is a general total is only since 9/11. For some unknown reason the counters got reset to zero with 9/11. Just as with the 12 million illegal immigrants they talk about today, well that 12 million is just from 9/11/01. What about the millions before 9/11. The real total is more like 35 to 40 million.

True we have our drunk drivers, and others criminals, but WHY COMPOND the problem. Besides, all illegals should not be here in the first place, drunk or not drunk, it should not even be an issue. And sure some of these illegal drunk drivers are most likely a family person who is just out having a Saturday night like any one else. But again, if they had their Saturday night in Mexico, a US citizen would not be dead.

No sympathy please for these illegal killers! What about the sympathy for the loved ones of the over 40,000 dead Americans? Their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, others family ties and friends, that number must be in the millions.

The lack of sympathy also goes to the bleeding hearts that say it’s wrong to separate the family with deportations, like Elvira and Saul. What about those millions I just spoke of that are separated from their loved ones. With no hope of ever seeing them again. That can’t run to Tijuana to see them!

    Marcyfitzmaurice,

Welcome, and I am sorry to hear that you and yours have fallen victim to this invasion.
