Obama Praises Muslim-Americans at Appearance in Argentina

SIS is “not an existential threat”, climate change is a “major problem”, and Muslim-Americans are one of the
“great strengths” of America, says Obama.

At a news conference in Argentina Wednesday, with Argentine President Mauricio Macri standing a few feet
away, Obama said, “One of the great strengths of the United States, is we have an extraordinary successful,
patriotic, integrated Muslim-American community.”

He joined others in condemning Sen. Ted Cruz for calling on cops to “patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods” in the
wake of the Belgian terror attacks. Obama said that strategy “makes no sense.”


He went on to say, of the Muslim-Americans, “Their children are our children’s friends. They are our men and women
in uniform, fighting for our freedom. Any approach that would single them out or target them for discrimination is not
only wrong and un-American, but it would be counter-productive.”

No one in the audience applauded.

On ISIS, President Obama said ISIS does not pose “an existential threat” to national security.

“I addressed this issue a little bit at the baseball game when I was interviewed by ESPN,” the president explained,
“but let me reiterate. Groups like ISIL can’t destroy us. They can’t defeat us,” he continued. “They can’t produce
anything. They’re not an existential threat to us.”

Obama went on to define major problems America is dealing with: “It’s important for the US President, and the
US government to work with people who are building, creating things, creating jobs, trying to solve major problems
like climate change.”

His visit to Argentina was just one day after a major terrorist attack in Belgium, for which ISIS has claimed responsibility.
