Seems the title is misleading because he talks of Arizona.

Illegals Are Draining Iowa Dollars

The Arizona law is tough. Companies that knowingly employ illegal workers will have their business licenses suspended for a first offense and permanently revoked for the second.

The law clearly sees the workplace, not the state's 376-mile border with Mexico, as the main battle line in fighting illegal immigration. The theory is take away the illegals job and they will move on.

Federal Law is already in place to fine and/or imprison employers for harboring and knowingly keeping illegals on the payroll. The Feds are fining and sending to jail some employers caught breaking the law. Problem is, the number of businesses dipping in the cheap illegal labor pool is huge. Too many for the manpower available.

Arizona is overwhelmed with illegals, Maricopa County is estimated to have 400,000 to 500,000 illegal workers. The Voters of Arizona were tired of waiting on the Feds and passed the new law to go after the employers! January 1, 2008 is the day investigations will begin with possible fines and sanctions by Febuary 1, 2008.

The law has hit the Federal Courts twice in December of 2007, only to be tossed out and allowed to go into law as intended. A January 16th court date will once again test the law as to its constitutionality.

Odds are, the law will stand the constitutional test.
