ORIGINAL: El Paso police officials confirm that two people have died after a shooting in Downtown El Paso Thursday night.
The FBI is handling the investigation.
El Paso Border Patrol officials said agents patrolling downtown near the Greyhound bus station heard what they believed to be gunshots around 6 p.m. Thursday.
Agents then found a man running from the station on foot, with a handgun.
ABC-7 learned Friday morning that the suspected gunman also tried to carjack a man in a truck. The wife of the man in the truck told ABC-7 that the suspect pointed a gun at the driver and tried forcing him out of the vehicle.
At that same time, agents approached the suspect and told him to drop his weapon.
A statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the shooting suspect refused and aimed the gun at the agents.
"Agents opened fire on the subject, striking him an unknown number of times," said the CBP statement.
EPPD said that man died. The victim shot near the bus station was taken to University Medical Center. Police posted on Twitter at 6 a.m. that man had also died.
