Liberal cries of racism over the Trump administration's enforcement of the nation's immigration laws come from a misguided "guilt for being white" former Rep. Tom Tancredo says.

"It goes to show you the extent to which this guilt, this cumulative guilt for being white, for being an American, has worked its way into our society," Tom Tancredo, a Colorado Republican, said Monday to Bill Tucker on Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live."

"[It's] mostly because of what has happened in our colleges and other institutions of 'higher education' and, of course, pop culture and everything else that is all built on this concept of guilt.

"Guilt for everything we've worked for, guilt for everything that America has ever done and guilt for being white. It is now part of the narrative that has absolutely sunken to the narrow of our societies."

Tancredo, a Breitbart columnist and 2008 Republican presidential candidate, told Tucker the enforcement of immigration laws benefits everybody who lives legally in the United States.

"It is so important for people to understand that when you talk about immigration reform and … trying to actually uphold the rule of law here, what you're doing is talking about creating a system that benefits everybody in this country legally," he said.

"Including every black and brown person who is looking for a job or who is underemployed or whose wages have been depressed because of the massive, massive immigration of low-skilled, low-wage workers.

"Why don't you care about them? Why isn't it important to think about those people here in America legally who happen to be black and brown, who are negatively affected by massive immigration especially illegal immigration."
