Officers arrested a 21-year-old Mexican woman at the Hidalgo bridge on Sunday, when they found 22.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her car.

Yezel Eunice Nevarez-Martell attempted to cross the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on Sunday driving a 2005 Mazda Tribute, according to the criminal complaint against her. Nevarez said she planned to shop in McAllen.

Officers thought Nevarez looked nervous and sent her to secondary inspection.

"A false compartment was located underneath the rear compartment area resulting in the discovery of 23 packages of cocaine," according to the criminal complaint.
The cocaine weighed 22.5 kilograms.

Officers contacted Homeland Security Investigations, a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which sent agents to question her.

Nevarez told a convoluted story about purchasing a car, according to the criminal complaint. After determining the story didn't make sense, agents arrested her.
Nevarez is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and illegally importing cocaine.

Court records don't list an attorney for Nevarez, who remains in federal custody and couldn't be reached for comment.
