Immigrant farm workers push for guest worker IDs

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A group of Mexican farm workers and several dairy farmers have testified in support of a guest worker program for the estimated 1,500 to 2,000 immigrants who work on Vermont's dairy farms.

The bill before the Senate Agriculture Committee would create state IDs for the workers making them eligible for state services.

There's a federal guest worker program for seasonal farm workers, but because the business is year-round, dairy farms aren't eligible for workers under the temporary visa worker programs.

A group called Migrant Justice wants the workers to be eligible for drivers' licenses.

Advocates said Wednesday immigrant farm workers, who are vital to Vermont's dairy industry, now face discrimination, fears of deportation and a lack of services. Some have gone days without food because they can't get to stores.

What these migrant farmers and the tens of millions of their relatives really want is a free pass with a direct ticket to citizenship.

The reason they are here is to pad the debit accounts of the thousands of companies and employers making fortunes off their backs by paying them under the table and bypassing the IRS, employee insurance, FICA, etc. they would normally be required to do with hiring American Citizens.

Anybody can figure this out.

I am all for a program that grants clemency for the millions of illegal aliens here, but NOT up to the point of granting them citizenship. That goes for their chain-migration anchor babies and the other twenty-plus millions relatives in the pipeline waiting to come to the USA illegally as well.

Open a blanket CLEMENCY that recognizes their right to work, but not their right to be citizens.

The underground economy employers have congress and the senate in a poker game that congress and the senate have already lost and they bet the entire country as collateral that tens of millions of illegal aliens would never become the massive societal and economic nightmare they have now become - THEY LOST THE BET and Americans are calling in the chips on them.

Allow those granted clemency to remain in their jobs, with a full accounting of their entire families, including wive(s), children, and relatives. This fulfills legally the employers demand for cheap labor, while accounting for the employment, wages, and incomes legally. Clemency would also be contingent on everyone NOT WORKING being required to return to Mexico, or allowed to stay in the country for a controlled period of time, but not full time.

To get the concept of what I'm talking about you really have to study other countries that import massive labor forces to accomplish various labor requirements WITHOUT granting them citizenship. Saudi Arabia is a perfect example of this. They allow large numbers of Filipinos, Pakistanis, Indians, and laborers from all over the world to immigrate on CONTROLLED WORK VISAS for SPECIFIC JOBS, and for SPECIFIC LENGTHS OF STAY.

The Saudis have been doing this for well over fifty years, are really smart at it, and it works really great for both the labor market and the immigrants who come in on the work visas AND EVERYTHING IS LEGAL, CONTROLLED, AND STRICTLY ENFORCED.

Here's another key to the Saudi's successful worker visa program: THEY NORMALLY DON'T ALLOW HUSBANDS TO BRING THEIR WIVES. The make this stipulation because they know that if they did allow copulation within large foreign labor populations sooner rather than later the Saudis would be THE MINORITY DEMOGRAPHIC IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.
