AZ - Border Patrol rescues lost Guatemalan children
14 hours ago • By Perla Trevizo
Border Patrol agents found a 7-year-old Guatemalan girl and her 4-year-old sister after they called 911 saying they were lost near the town of San Miguel on the Tohono O'odham Nation.
On Friday, agents from the Tucson Sector's Three Points substation, southwest of Tucson, were dispatched to look for the children who were traveling without parents and had been abandoned by the smugglers, an agency news release said.
Using coordinates from the 911 call the agents found the children, who were in good health. The parents of the children have been located, Guatemalan Consulate officials said, adding that no further information could be provided because they were minors.
Agents in the sector have rescued 500 people so far this fiscal year — which ends Sept. 30 — compared to 509 last year.
Nearly 70,000 minors crossed the border without parents last fiscal year, the majority through South Texas. So far this fiscal year, the numbers are half of what they were last year, with 31,000 apprehensions nationwide.
In the Tucson Sector, agents have made about 5,000 unaccompanied minors apprehensions, 33 percent less than last fiscal year.
But in Yuma, so far this year agents have made about 800 apprehensions, more than twice as many as in fiscal 2014, Customs and Border Protection data show. Most of the minors are from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

Oh this is just sickening. And these are the people our government wants to protect? Parents who would send their children off on such a journey? Disgusting. Disgusting.

I wonder if the parents are already here working as illegals. That would make sense because the smuggler was being paid by someone. If so, the parents should be charged as partners in an illegal alien smuggling ring, prosecuted, and deported.
