LOS ANGELES—Protesters have gathered outside a Los Angeles fundraiser where President Barack Obama is speaking in support of Sen. Barbara Boxer.

Boxer is seeking a fourth term and has won big in the past in Democratic-friendly California. But she's facing a more difficult political environment this time around because of the shaky economy.

Anti-war activists and veterans gathered outside the event Monday to demand the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Demonstrators with the Service Employees International Union say they want the president to make immigration reform a priority and halt immigration raids.

Other protesters are urging the end of the "don't ask don't tell," policy that bars gays and lesbians from openly serving in the military.
