Pro-immigrant groups to converge on Washington

Senate vote on immigration expected within two weeks

    Washington D.C. - May 12, 2006 - (ACN) National pro-immigrant
groups that organized the massive marches and the May 1st
Boycott have united and will be converging on Washington D.C.
    this Wednesday May 17.

[IMAGE] Juan Jose Gutierrez, of the International May 1 Coalition
and the Latino Movement USA said, "We're unbreakably united in
favor of legalizing the millions of undocumented immigrants
and against the law that criminalizes our people and groups
    who help them."

Juan Jose Gutierrez made a call for all immigrants to "show
their strength in numbers" on Wednesday in a "gigantic" march
and rally in Washington that is timed to coincide with the
Senate's resumption of debate on immigration reform. "In the
face of the possibility of anti-immigrant legislation on the
horizon, we have to join forces to persuade Congress to
stop the attacks on the immigrant community," Juan Jose
    Gutierrez said.

The massive Latino march on Washington is crucial, said
pro-immigrant leaders, because the immigration debate
expected to resume next week on the Senate floor is going
to be "extremely heated" and hard fought.

[IMAGE] Meanwhile, a "Minutemen Vigilante" caravan that was
scheduled to arrived today in Washington from Los Angeles
has run out of gas. The convoy of about 10 ragged vehicles
petered out soon after it left Los Angeles. The caravan has
been a comical farce since it was given its "send off" on
May 3 at a park in a Black community of Los Angeles. The
"send off" ceremony, attended by very few supporters, included
"King of the Homeless" Ted Hayes as a keynote speaker.

The vigilantes were met by a large number of Afro-American
protestors. Najee Ali, a South Los Angeles community activist
who led the protest said, "The Minutemen racists have never
had any concern with Black Americans. They don't come into
our community and give any assistance to help reduce gang
violence or create employment opportunities." Najee Ali and
others at the "send off" ceremony said they don't buy the
message or the motives of the Minutemen. With a bullhorn,
Ali chanted, "Minutemen go home!" as the caravan took off.

1st: didn't this guy get the memo that the Senators were feverishly working for him since yesterday?

2nd: I'm so happy!! I was afraid they were going to stay under the media radar. Shoot, should we go down there and start handing out flags?

    3rd: Hey ICE -- ROUND-UP time?

if these people were doing these marches in THEIR country, I might be sympathetic to their cause and I guess somebody forgot to give Juan Jose the memo that this was not "ANTI-IMMIGRATION" legislation and these were not "IMMIGRANTS"

I wish they would like all the 'legal immigrants' on one side and the illegal 'immigrants' on the other so people can count heads
