BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. (WGGB) — A Springfield man wanted in Massachusetts since 1997 has been arrested in Georgia by federal officials.

Phillip Andrew Lewis, 43, of 19 Campfire Trail Euharlee, Georgia was taken into custody Monday morning. That’s according to the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force which is a part of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

Commander Mark Mayton with the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force reports they recently received a criminal arrest warrant for Lewis from the Springfield Police Department and they took him into custody shortly before 6:30 a.m. Monday.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations also assisted in making the arrest.

Lewis had an outstanding warrant for “Rape of child with force” and is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to his immigration status.

Pending his extradition to Massachusetts, Lewis is currently being held at the Bartow County Jail in Georgia.
