DALTON, Ga. — On the eve of a public hearing here on immigration, several advocates for illegal immigrants said at a press conference today that health care reform does not belong in immigration reform legislation.

“Creating a climate of fear ... will cause early cases of potential epidemics to go unnoticed,” Danny Vincent, managing director for HealthSTAT, said.

The press conference, hosted by the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, included health care professionals and a local business leader.

On Tuesday, the Health Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a public hearing on illegal immigration and its impact on the health care system and the federal Medicaid program.

The hearing starts at 10 a.m. at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center. U.S. Rep. Hilda Solis, D-Calif., will hold a 9 a.m. press conference there before testifying at the hearing.

Georgia 10th District U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, a Gainesville Republican who was recently named chairman of the Subcommittee on Health, is presiding over the hearings, an installment of which was held in Gainesville today.

His chief of staff, Chris Riley, said today that anyone can still get emergency medical care, and that requiring all Medicaid applicants to show proof of citizenship was an important reform.

“You can’t break the law and expect to get on the public assistance dole,” Chris Riley said.

I'm so sick of the don't scare the illegals crap. They need to be scared. Scare them so darn bad that they get the heck out of my country and never want to come back. The cops need to be harassing the crap out of them and the tax payer financed hospitals need to deny them services. Along with every other service they exploit. Cut them off and scare them off.

Epidemics will spread in any low income community(not just the special illegal alien community) because they will not seek services in a timely manner because of no insurance and lack of money. Truth be told, there are just as many poor Americans that need those services, which are denied because of illegal aliens. Once again, the illegals are driving the criteria for need off the mark. Just like they drive the wages down, they drive the need scale towards lower incomes and families with more dependents, which cuts many tax paying Americans off from services.
