The latest immigration investigation comes on the heels of last weekend's arrest of five illegal immigrants at the Holiday Inn Express in Mineral Wells, and the subsequent arrest and release of John Tampa. Tampa is the employer who hired the illegal immigrants to work on the construction site for his company.

Tampa was arrested and charged with four counts of employing aliens earlier this week. He faces only about $1,000 in fines. Also, his construction company, based out of Georgia, is still building at the Holiday Inn Express, something the Wood County Sheriffs Department says is a problem.

The department says they've been in contact with both the IRS and the INS about having Tampa's business license revoked in West Virginia. They say they'll also be in contact with similar agencies in Georgia to attempt to have his license revoked there as well.

$1,000 in fines for 5 illegals???
That's insulting! Where are the teeth in our immigration laws?
30 days in jail for each infraction would be more appropriate...
If we need ANY new legislation it should be to increase fines and impose mandatory sentences!

You know, if those guys worked 40 hour weeks and he underpays them by $2 an hour, he recooped his money in about a week and a half.

You just cut into his profit a little, and you didn't effect his lifestyle.

The penalties on employeers, if they are enforced at all, are so low that they are ineffective.
