CORPUS CHRISTI — Thirty undocumented immigrants fled after pickups they were riding in were stopped by Department of Public Safety troopers about 11 a.m. Wednesday, San Patricio County Sheriff Leroy Moody said.

The immigrants — 16 men, nine women and five boys — were found near Lake City after troopers stopped two stolen pickups, Moody said.

“The plates on the trucks did not match the vehicles they were registered to,” Moody said. “The Sheriff’s Office was called in to help find them after they jumped out of the trucks.”

Moody said the undocumented immigrants were from Mexico and El Salvador.

They were found and released into Border Patrol custody, Moody said.
