Immigration raids at Texas trash hauling company

Houston - Immigration officials raided a trash hauling company northeast of Houston on Wednesday, and local media said dozens of workers were rounded up.


Some of the workers, from Republic Waste Co., a unit of Republic Services Inc., were handcuffed and taken away in buses, the media reports said.

Calls to the company were not immediately returned.

Luisa Deason, a spokeswoman with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement said, "We are on site and conducting an enforcement action." She gave no additional details.

Immigration officials have stepped up action against illegal workers and identity theft in recent months. Last month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested more than 1,300 mostly Mexican workers in coordinated raids on Swift & Co. meat processing plants in six states.

Not in Columbus. OH. One just got busted for cocaine pocession, on the school bus. No kids were on it, but he was on his way to pick up a bus load. The 3rd party that furnished this bus and driver failed to perform a back ground check. Consequently, it wasn't known he had prior convictions for drug / alchohol abuse.

All shools were shut down the following day, due to a lack of drivers. The drivers from this 3rd party couldn't work wo a background check. All of them were checked wi 24 hours and only five more were prevented from working. I'm not sure if they were a problem or what ?

So the kids didn't get a snow day, but a screw up day.
