WASHINGTON—The leader of a coalition of grass-roots groups says the organizations are launching a campaign of nonviolent civil disobedience to force political leaders to reform immigration laws.
The coalition's leader, Deepak (Dee-pack) Bhargava (Bar-gah-va), says more groups will be joining in civil disobedience leading to an escalation of the protests in Arizona on May 29.
The protests are in response to Arizona's new immigration law and the failure of Congress to address immigration reform.
The group says plans are in the works to block buses coming in and out of immigration detention centers; stage sit-ins at congressional members' offices; demonstrate at federal buildings and carry out events targeted at corporations doing business in Arizona.
