Mexico offers other nations use of consulates in U.S.

    By VÃÂ*ctor Hugo Michel

The Mexican government will place its consular network in the United States at the disposal of those Central American and Caribbean countries that may make such a request, according to Luis Ernesto Derbez, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Relations.

Derbez said that a dozen countries will be allowed to station their personnel in Mexican consulates in the U.S. Mexico has more consulates in the United States than any other foreign country, with 48 diplomatic missions throughout the nation.

The countries that might participate in this initiative, the objective of which is to allow countries with lesser resources to care for their citizens in the U.S., are Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.

“With pleasure, Mexican consulates will be able to house an official from another government so that it can provide adequate defense (to its citizens), in the proper setting, given that we have that ability that does not necessarily correspond to the capability of all the other countries, Derbez said.

Does anybody remember the story of a Trojan Horse?

My recollection is that the city-state that accepted it ceased to exist soon afterward.

So is Mexico closing the consulates or will they just be renting rooms out to other SA nations? We all know how many people they can squeeze into little spaces.

We should immediately pass a law prohibiting Consulate Condos Sharing.

In fact, we should just CLOSE ALL MEXICAN CONSULATES.

We're gonna have to fight a war with these people, that is becoming more brutally apparent every single day.

So they can provide "defense" from what? The rule of law of the United States of America? Well, we all know that is exactly what these "pendejos" mean. And they can blatantly snub their noses at our laws because King George and his AG Gonzalez will allow it.

This is called facilities management and is found within other businesses. Also sharing of facilities is already done though on a more ad hoc basis by consular corps now.

This would permit a formal or honorary consulate to offer services to its citizens and Americans going there. This can now be done with one appointee who would not have to lease an office space or hire themself a receptionist or secretary.

At the same time the Mexicans could gain a margin of profit in the income from a sublet or political leverage.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

It is totally improper and ill-conceived and needs to be made illegal. We want the right at all times without fuss, muss or complications to close these consulates with Mexico. If they get a bunch of other countries in their facilities then they'll start whining, "what about our facilities" when we kick out Mexico?

    NO CONSULATE CONDO SHARING.

Just close all Mexican Consulates. They are using them to smuggle illegal aliens, drug runners, smugglers and disease into the country and kidnap our industries and haul them out of our country.

It's a no win situation with Mexico.

Just close their consulates now before they start setting up military offices in them.

Not that it would be a problem or of any concern if several nations operated a joint consulate, sharing staff, resources, etc. But Foreign Secretary Derbez does not miss the opportunity in his statement to suggest that migrant Latinos are somehow in dire need of "defense". This is just the latest example of several recent releases from the Government of Mexico that either forthrightly, or in more subtle ways, acuses America and Americans of unjust treatment of Mexicans and Central American migrants.

In any case, part of the function of any Consulate should be to monitor the fair treatment of their Citizens in the host country. That is certainly legitimate, even if those persons are illegal immigrants. However, there is a diplomatic way to pursue those concerns. Mexico is not following a diplomatic course at this time on the immigration issue.

    Judy,

That is correct. If Consulates are involved in illegal activities, they should and MUST be shut down. If Consulates are found to be interfering with the enforcement of immigration laws, obstruction of just, they should be shut down. If they are making extraordinary efforts to influence legislation and governance in the host country, they should be shut down. The fact that there are nearly 4 dozen Consulates of Mexico in the US is a real concern.

There is no question in my mind that the consulate facilities of Mexico and their personnel are being used for anti-American objectives for the sole purpose of harming our nation and our people.

They need to be shut down and shut down now.
