    A deportation hearing for Edgar Alavarez Cruz, who is suspected of being a member of a gang that was responsible for killing and raping at least 10 women from 1993 to 2003 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, has been scheduled for Sept. 6 in El Paso, Texas.
    Cruz, 30, was arrested at his girlfriend's home in Denver on Aug. 15 and accused of being in the United States illegally.

    He is being held at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's El Paso Processing Center.

    It was not known Wednesday whether there is an arrest warrant out of Mexico for Cruz, or why he was not extradited to Mexico last week.

    Calls to the Mexican Consulate in Denver were not returned.
