House approves DHS funding bill, ending immigration standoff

LIST OF REPUBLICANS VOTING WITH OBAMA, PELOSI, AND DEMOCRATS TO FUND AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS POSTED BELOW

House approves DHS funding bill, ending immigration standoff

    Published March 03, 2015 FoxNews.com

NOW PLAYINGCongress passes stopgap to keep DHS funded another week
The House voted Tuesday to fund the Homeland Security Department through the end of the budget year, ending a protracted standoff that centered on objections to President Obama's controversial immigration actions.

The House voted 257-167 for the legislation, sending it to Obama's desk. The final legislation includes no immigration provisions, and was carried over the finish line with mostly Democratic votes.

The result is a victory for the Obama administration. Republicans had tried to use the DHS funding bill as the vehicle to reverse Obama's immigration executive actions. But Democrats repeatedly blocked the move, insisting they pass the spending bill with no riders attached.

House Speaker John Boehner, faced with diminishing options, earlier in the day told fellow Republican lawmakers he would drop the immigration demands.

"I am as outraged and frustrated as you at the lawless and unconstitutional actions of this president," Boehner told his caucus on Tuesday morning, according to a source.

But he said he believed the decision to vote on a "clean" bill, "considering where we are -- is the right one for this team, and the right one for this country."

Boehner's move could lead to a backlash in the party, especially since House GOP leaders repeatedly denied claims that he struck a deal with Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi last week to hold such a vote.

"This is the signal of capitulation," said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, earlier. "The mood of this thing is such that to bring it back from the abyss is very difficult."

But other Republicans welcomed Boehner's decision.

"Sanity is prevailing. I do give John Boehner credit," said Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.

Short-term funding for the department was set to expire on Friday at midnight. Those voting for the final bill Tuesday included 182 Democrats and just 75 Republicans.

Boehner, according to sources, told his rank-and-file members that the only other options would be to allow DHS to undergo a partial shutdown, which he urged against considering the "active terror threats;" or to take up another stopgap funding bill, which he told lawmakers probably would not pass. Boehner blamed the impasse on Senate Democrats.

Congress has been caught in a procedural whirlwind over the past week as lawmakers tested various options for the DHS funding bill. After the effort to pass one stopgap funding bill melted down on the House floor last Friday, Congress approved a one-week funding bill in the final hours before a midnight deadline.

House Republicans, meanwhile, made a last-ditch effort to pursue immigration provisions by urging the Senate to join them in negotiating a compromise bill.

Senate Democrats blocked that effort on Monday.

Boehner told his caucus the fight against Obama's immigration orders would continue in the courts, which have suspended those actions for now. Obama's actions would spare millions of illegal immigrants from deportation.

They just threw us, American Citizens, under the bus and it should be the last time that they are allowed to do this to us. It is time for the real Republicans to throw Boehner out of the House Speaker role and if they can, out of the House completely. If ever we are to believe any of them again then Boehner must be removed from office or otherwise they all support his actions from today. They should all share the blame for letting him be in that office period. We must act now, not just speak about actions but actually act !!! It made me sick to my stomach what the Republicans just did to us, the Dems still rule over us even after Novembers elections, they threw us all under the bus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very extremely pissed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here Are the 75 House Republicans Who Conceded the Immigration Fight

    Mar. 3, 2015 3:25pm Pete Kasperowicz

The House on Tuesday admitted defeat after a month-long effort to defund President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration, and passed a Department of Homeland Security funding bill that leaves Obama’s plan intact.

The vote came after dozens of House Republicans fought to the bitter end to reject the “clean” DHS bill, in an effort to oppose what they see as an unconstitutional action from Obama. The House passed the bill 257-167, and sending it to the White House for Obama’s signature into law.

In the end, 167 Republicans voted against the Senate’s version of the bill. But because the bill was supported by every Democrat, only 30 or so Republicans had to support it to ensure it’s passage, and 75 GOP members voted for it.

The vote marks the end of a bitter fight over Obama’s immigration action that saw Senate Democrats dictate the terms of the dispute throughout the entire process. The House was able to easily pass a bill defunding Obama’s immigration plan, but when it got to the Senate, Democrats refused to provide the six or so votes needed to advance the legislation.

After a few weeks, with pressure building on the GOP to fund DHS, Democrats were able to force the Senate to approve a DHS bill that didn’t include any immigration language at all. On top of that, Senate Democrats refused to negotiate with the House on the bill.

That forced House GOP leaders to concede that they could either force a partial DHS shutdown, or admit defeat.

In floor debate, Republicans on both sides of the issue blamed Senate Democrats for refusing to follow basic procedures and forcing the House’s hand. But GOP members split on just how hard the House should have fought back.

Rep. Tom Massie (R-Ky.) led the group of Republicans who opposed the clean DHS bill, even at the risk of a partial DHS shutdown, in order to make the point that the House shouldn’t be steamrolled by the White House and the Senate.

“Today we heard Mr. Netanyahu say this is the most powerful legislative… organization in the world,” Massie said. “I would say it is, except for when the Senate decides that it’s not.”

“The fault lies in the U.S. Senate,” added Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.).

Several others agreed that the need to protect the constitutional role of the House was a larger issue than DHS funding. Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) rejected the Democratic criticism that Republicans can’t “govern,” and said conservative GOP members are trying to follow the Constitution.

“If it was just about governing, then I think that the American people can just close shop and let the president just run everything. But we actually have a constitution that we have to adhere to,” he said.

“Despots all over the world, they govern. They keep the trains running on time. But we stand for something different,” he added.

Other Republicans, however, argued that there was no where else to go in the fight except a DHS shutdown that would bring Republicans more scorn and derision.

“The problem is, I don’t see a path to victory,” said Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho).

Many other Republicans noted that a federal court has imposed an injunction on Obama’s plan, which has prevented key parts of Obama’s program from being implemented. Several have said the GOP should claim that as a win and move on by ensuring DHS is funded.

Below is the full list of House Republicans to voted for the “clean” DHS spending bill:

It's going to be a long, painful and costly 2 years for no reason at all, for nothing good to come of it, for no benefit whatsoever, so all I can say is thank God these people are in Congress on their way back to the private sector instead of in our US Military, or they would have already handed US over, run away and left US to fight on our own.

Republicans throughout history have always fought to win the cause or the issue. Even though we've won some and lost some and may not always agree amongst ourselves on one issue or another, never in the history of the Republican Party have we had cowards in Congress who gave up the fight until now.

Well, in the spirit of Real Republicanism, we will fight on, and never forget nor forgive the Cowards Betrayal by the 114th Congress.

Once again they throw the American Citizen under the bus, we need to show a serious reaction in response to what they have done today. Their hearts are obviously harden against the suffering of the American citizen in so many ways. The violence these individuals, Illegal Aliens, commit against us is beyond measure, physically and finicially, these conditions can no longer be tolerated or accepted by us. What are we as the real owners of this nation going to do to protect her ? I am ready to action on my convictions, is anyone else ready too ? Let's do something to save her, rescue her and ourselves from the enemies from within her borders.
