UMKC Law Professor Kris Kobach helped write Arizona's new law. He says the new law was carefully written to avoid racial profiling, and says the law picks up where the federal government has failed. Polls show the law is widely popular in Arizona and around the country.

"The case law, US Supreme Court case law and 9th Circuit Court case law, all supports what Arizona is doing," Kobach said." At the end of the day, the law will go into effect, but a preliminary injunction is merely a freezing of the status quo so the judge can decide the case without the facts changing."
