Illegal immigrant arrested in Branson also wanted for murder in South Carolina

An illegal immigrant from Mexico arrested in Branson on Nov. 11 is wanted for murder in South Carolina, immigration agents discovered after running the man’s prints through a fingerprint database.

Isaias Diaz-Gutierrez, 26, had been using an assumed name when he was arrested by Branson police and charged with resisting arrest. Diaz-Gutierrez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three days in jail, which he had already served.

Suspecting he might be an illegal alien, Branson authorities contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Springfield before his release, according to a press release issued by the immigration office.

ICE took custody of Diaz-Gutierrez on Wednesday. A fingerprint check identified him as being wanted in York County, S.C. for murder, armed robbery, and three counts of forgery.

A separate criminal database revealed that Diaz-Gutierrez is charged with beating an 81-year-old man using a concrete block in late December 2002. The man died the next month.

Diaz-Gutierrez admitted his true identity after the positive fingerprint ID and was turned over to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday to await extradition to South Carolina, the release said.

“A great deal of effective law enforcement has to do with cooperating with other law enforcement agencies,” the release said, quoting Pete Baird, assistant special agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Kansas City. “Thanks to Branson PD, its officers followed their instincts and contacted ICE to handle a potential immigration issue. Now a violent murder suspect is in custody awaiting extradition.”

Gosh, imagine that. Law enforcement does its job and carches a murderer. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get political correctness out of the way and actually treat criminals like criminals and find out what other crimes they may have committed?
