CHICAGO -- An undocumented Chicago mother who has taken refuge In a West Side church is going on a hunger strike.

Immigration activist Elvira Arellano and her pastor, the Rev. Walter Coleman, said they're starting a 25-day hunger strike on Friday.

Arellano has been holed up inside the church for seven months.

I wager they won't make it. Or will cheat with food. Or that it will make more Americans angry. Or.... I can't go a morning with out eating something.

Once again, this woman is not considering her child. I think starving yourself to death would be tramatic to a child.

She is just attention seeking and has grown tired of living in her sanctuary. Seriously, no one cares so she's pulling a stunt. Look at me, look at me.

She must be thinking that the Kennedys will come visit her, if she does this. I mean, it worked for Cesar Chaves but he wasn't a criminal and he was a true civil rights leader. Only American citizens have civil rights.

The kennedy's would only come and visit her if she had a couple of fifth's to pass out for Teddy.

Hungry strike. Maybe she and the pastor will pass out from hunger and have to be taken to the hospital. Then ICE can take her from there and deport her. Her child should be given to child services or his father since her mother is a criminal (social security fraud) and should be deported.

OMG, I had forgotten about her son. This is now doublely tragic Dixie. I hope he isn't used as a pawn again in this latest stunt.

Indeed he will see her weak. Imagine the hatred this little guy is going to have against America. Imagine him growing up hiding this and being voted into an important political office. Imagine him then sticking it to us for hurting his 'mommy.'

CHICAGO An undocumented Chicago mother who's taken refuge in a West Side church to avoid a deportation order is going on a hunger strike.

Immigration activist Elvira Arellano (el-VEE'-ruh ah-ray-AH'-noh) and her pastor, Reverend Walter Coleman, announced today that they're going on a 25-day hunger strike starting tomorrow.

Arellano has publicized her own case to criticize the separation of families following deportation orders.

Both she and her pastor say they feel the hunger strike is necessary to get the attention of politicians to change immigration laws.

Arellano and Coleman are having their last meal tonight with members of the community at the Adalberto United Methodist Church, where Arellano has taken refuge since mid-August.

The hunger strike will end on May First.

The DJ joked about a perfect way to play the victim role. Hospital trip maybe......how awful for ICE to try and get her then. Or what a great tear jerking poster shot for the marches......a starving Elvira posted so sadly with hands folded in front of the virgin Mary. This woman makes me ill. Maybe ICE should know whats going on......save her from herself.
