    Elida Garcia loved school.

    She talks wistfully about it, imagining her success if the harsh realities of growing up poor in Coahuila, Mexico, had not interfered.

    After the sixth grade, Garcia had to stay home and help her mother take care of her five younger siblings while her older sisters worked.

    Now Garcia, who is 52, wants to finish her education.

    "First of all because I love school from my heart and second of all to set an example for my son," she said.

    She is getting that chance thanks to a plaza comunitaria â€â€
