Kidnapped Georgia Girl Ayvani Perez Found Alive, Two Men In Custody

JONESBORO, Ga. – A 14-year-old girl abducted from her family during a home invasion in Georgia has been found alive, authorities said.

Ayvani Hope Perez was taken from her home on Tuesday around 2:15 am after robbers realized there was no money or jewelry. The abductors shot the family dog during the abduction. Authorities have said the robbery and abduction appeared to be random.

There were about 150 law enforcement personnel involved in the search.
Two suspects are in custody and two others are at large, police said. One of the men in custody is Juan Alberto Contreras-Rodriguez, a 40-year-old Mexican national who is being held on immigration-related charges. The other suspect, Wildrego Jackson of Atlanta, 29, is being held on charges of conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Clayton County Police Chief Gregory Porter said the girl was found in Conyers, Ga., and has been reunited with her family.

"She's in good health, she's being evaluated as we speak," Porter said.

Two men pried open a back door of the home in the Ellenwood area around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, demanding the items, Clayton County police Officer Phong Nguyen said. "It didn't appear that they knew each other," he said of the suspects and victims. "They just moved in about a month ago."

Ayvani's mother had her daughter and her 15-year-old son hiding inside the home, but the intruders were able to find them, police said in a statement. The men abducted Ayvani with no explanation, police said.

The family was reportedly trying to raise $10,000 in ransom so the girl could be returned to them, the newspaper reported. It's unclear if they ever paid the ransom.

About 150 people gathered for a nighttime vigil on Tuesday in honor of Ayvani.
The crime happened on a cul-de-sac in Ellenwood, a small community about 10 miles southeast of Atlanta, police said. The neighborhood is on the northern edge of Clayton County, just south of the DeKalb County line.

Missing Georgia teen found safe

ELLENWOOD, Ga. (WSB-TV) -- A Clayton County teen who was abducted from her home early Tuesday morning is now back with her family.

A neighbor told Channel 2 Action News she saw Ayvani Perez, 14, return to the family home in Ellenwood early Wednesday night.

However, Channel 2 Action News has learned Ayvani is not spending the night at the home that she was abducted from nearly 48 hours earlier.

Investigators announced in a news conference Wednesday that they had arrested Wildrego Jackson, 29, and Juan Alberto Rodriguez, 40, in connection to Ayvani's abduction.

Police said two armed men broke into Ayvani's home early Tuesday and kidnapped her after asking her mother for money and jewelry.

Police said Rodriguez and Jackson are not the same men that were pictured in the sketches investigators released on Tuesday.

They said the men in the sketches are the ones that carried out the abduction, and they remain on the loose.

"We believe those two suspects in the drawings are still at large," said Special Agent Rick Maxwell with the FBI.

Clayton County Police Chief Greg Porter said Ayvani was in seemingly good health when police found her and she had been evaluated after police said they located her at a home in Conyers.

After digging into both men's criminal background, Channel 2 Action News learned there was a connection between one of the men arrested and Ayvani's mother, Maria Corral.

ICE agents confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that Rodriguez was arrested in December 2012 in Henry County under the name of Juan Aberto Contreras-Ramirez, and was charged with trafficking marijuana.

Channel 2's Erica Byfield confirmed that Ayvani's mother was also arrested in that same incident.

Drug agents said they found 500 pounds of marijuana in the Henry County home where Rodriguez and Ayvani's mother were arrested.

Charges against both were later dropped but the case indicates this week's kidnapping may not be as random as authorities first believed.

Rodriguez is currently being held on immigration-related charges. Jackson faces conspiracy to commit kidnapping charges.

Federal agents wouldn't say how they came to find Ayvani at the Conyers home.

Porter said the suspects were captured "through hardcore police work."

"I want to thank the community as a whole for supporting the Clayton County Police Department and all the collaborations between the agencies," Porter said.

Channel 2 Action News dug into Jackson's record and found he has an extensive criminal background dating back to at least 2001.

Records show multiple arrests through the years on charges that include assault, child cruelty, sale and distribution of cocaine, marijuana possession, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was also arrested on obstruction charges.

Neighbors told Byfield they are very happy the teen was returned safely.

"We have just been praying as a community for her safe return and so I'm so excited," said neighbor Fran Pond.

Pond said she doesn't know the girl but in the day and a half she saw Ayvani's picture all over the place, she felt a connection.

"My heart goes out because I'm a mom, so my heart went out to her mom," Pond said.

Lucille Howard lives two doors down from Ayvani and her family. Howard just moved to the seemingly quiet neighborhood three days ago. She made a point to hug the teen Wednesday evening shortly after Ayvani returned home safely.

"Something like that really shook me up. But I'm going to find out more about this thing because some things don't make sense to me," Howard said. "She smiled, she gave me the biggest smile, she said, 'thank you.'"

Howard says the teen looked calm but tired and glad to be home. Now Howard and other neighbors have questions about the circumstances surrounding Ayvani's kidnapping

"Just meeting her today, it doesn't matter what happened, since she is home safe. That's my main concern," Howard said.

Could it be the charges were dropped to protect these two from deportation? 500 lbs is not a personal use quantity.

Even if the judge dropped the marijuana charge they should have been deported.

(CBS) - The mother of Ayvani Perez, a 14-year-old Georgia girl who was found safe Wednesday after being abducted from her home early Tuesday, was arrested in February 2012 on drug charges with one of the men suspected in her daughter's abduction, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed to CBS News' Crimesider.

The Henry Daily Herald reported on Feb. 23, 2012 that Maria Magdalena Corral, who has been identified by multiple sources as the mother of Ayvani Perez, was arrested with Juan Alberto Contreras-Ramirez and three others following a drug raid in Stockbridge, Ga. The five people were arrested on charges of trafficking marijuana, according to the paper.

During the raid, agents with the Flint Circuit Drug Task Force recovered about 550 pounds of marijuana and $3,000 in cash, police reportedly told the paper.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Corral was never indicted in the drug-trafficking case and Contreras-Ramirez had the charges dropped against him after a judge ruled the search of the home was unconstitutional because the agents lacked a warrant.

Police confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Ayvani was found safe after being abducted from her Ellenwood home early Tuesday. Chief Gregory Porter with the Clayton County police says Ayvani was found "at a location in Conyers, Georgia" and that two suspects were in custody.The FBI identified the kidnapping suspects in custody as Juan Alberto Contreras-Rodriguez, described as a 40-year-old Mexican national, and Wildrego Jackson, 29, of Atlanta. ICE confirmed to Crimesider that Contreras-Rodriguez also goes by Contreras-Ramirez.

"It is the same guy," Vincent Picard, spokesperson for ICE, said.

The FBI said in a news conference Wednesday that Rodriguez is being held on immigration-related charges and Jackson is being held on conspiracy to kidnap.

Authorities say they are looking at several other suspects in the kidnapping.

They also said during the news conference that officials have not determined the relationship between Ayvani's family and the suspects. They said the motive has not been determined.

The kidnapping happened on a cul-de-sac in Ellenwood, a small community about 10 miles southeast of Atlanta, police said. Stockbridge, where the 2012 drug trafficking arrests occurred, is about 10 miles from Ellenwood.

A spokesman for the Clayton County police told CBS News' Crimesider that police were not aware of any connection between the mother of Ayvani Perez and the kidnapping suspects, and had been focused on rescuing the teen. Crimesider has left messages with two other law enforcement agencies involved in the 2012 drug case, which have not been returned.

Five people were arrested following a drug raid in Stockbridge by the Flint Circuit Drug Task Force.

All of the suspects appeared in Henry County Magistrate Court Wednesday, before Judge Wesley Shannon. Juan Alberto Contreras-Ramirez, Maria Magdalena Corral, Jose Juan Guerrero-Estrada, Jesus Bernal Peinado, and Victor Hugo Corchado Gonzalez are charged with trafficking marijuana.

Judge Shannon bound their cases over to Henry County Superior Court.

According to Maj. Chad Rosborough, the drug raid was the result of an investigation conducted by task force agents.

Approximately three months ago, we received information to a possible drug-trafficking organization,” said Maj. Rosborough. He said the information his agency received led to a residence, at 589 McCullough Road, in Stockbridge.

Tuesday, they got enough substantial information to obtain a search warrant for the house. Agents executed the search warrant around 3:30 p.m. “They found about 550 pounds of marijuana and $3,000 in cash,” said Rosborough. “The estimated street value is $300,000.”

The four men and one woman were arrested without incident, or injuries.

“This is the largest marijuana bust we have made since the task force was combined in May,” Rosborough said.

The suspects transported the marijuana, which was welded inside large equipment, such as automotive parts, said Rosborough. He added that the drugs have not been linked to any auto repair shop.

During our investigation, it appeared the marijuana was coming from the Mexico and Texas areas, and was being transported here, to Henry County,” he said.

None of the suspects lived at the Stockbridge home where they were apprehended, he added. “They were using it strictly as a stash house.”

Task force agents never went to the home to purchase drugs.

Rosborough explained that the trafficking charge stems from the large quantity of marijuana found inside the house. “Anything over 10 pounds of marijuana is an automatic charge of trafficking marijuana,” said Rosborough.

The suspects remained in the Henry County Jail without bond at press time, Wednesday.

This woman and all her cohorts need to be charged with child endangerment, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and anything else they can find to charge them with, and the teen needs to be REMOVED from this home.
