    Based on an indictment issued last week by a federal grand jury, 31 members and associates of a Los Angeles-area street gang were arrested on charges related to a wide-ranging criminal enterprise controlled by the Mexican Mafia that allegedly is responsible for the murder of a rival gangster and the attempted murder of a Whittier police officer.     Minnesota man pleads guilty to naturalization, tax fraud
    Muhammed Fatty, 41 of Little Canada, Minnesota, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful procurement of naturalization and making false claims in relation to tax refunds. Fatty was previously charged with the crimes in August 2015.

    ICE arrests 331 in Midwest during monthlong enforcement action
    This operation, which began May 9 and concluded Monday, is the latest effort by ICE to arrest and remove convicted criminal aliens. The arrests were made in the following six states: Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Kansas and Missouri.

    Oakland man charged with production of child pornography
    D’mar Dwain Jennings Conway Conway, 28, was indicted Thursday based on a criminal complaint originally filed last month. According to court documents, during a search of Conway’s Fruitvale neighborhood residence HSI special agents seized a video camera and a digital storage card for that device.

    Paul Charles Wilkins, 70, of Littleport in East Cambridgeshire, England, a dual citizen of the United States and United Kingdom, was named in a four-count superseding indictment that now includes charges of transporting and possessing child pornography.

    Houston businessman pleads guilty to foreign bribery and tax charges in connection with Venezuelan bribery scheme
    Roberto Enrique Rincon Fernandez (Rincon), 55, of The Woodlands, Texas, pleaded guilty June 16 to information charging him with one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), one count of violating the FCPA, and one count of making false statements on his 2010 federal income tax return.

    As detailed in the indictment and other court filings by the government, between approximately 2011 and 2013, the defendants Kelvin Cisnero Santos, 48, of the Bronx, Saul Ovalles Corniel, 40, of Newark, New Jersey, Carlos Bello Tirado, 40, of Leesburg, Florida, Ernest Pena, 40 of the Bronx, and Jermaine Sandifer, 40 of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, were members of a large-scale drug trafficking organization based in the Bronx.

    4 human smugglers sentenced in South Texas to federal prison
    U.S. District Judge Randy Crane sentenced all four human smugglers June 14. Judge Crane took into consideration the leadership roles in the human smuggling organization of Jorge Luis Ortiz-Aguilera, 36, of Mexico, and Jose Mario Ledezma-Vega, 47, of Edinburg, Texas. Judge Crane sentenced both Ortiz-Aguilera and Ledezma-Vega to 51-months in federal prison each.

    The lead defendant in the 35-count indictment is Jose Loza, who recently became a full-fledged member of the Mexican Mafia and is the “shotcaller” of the Canta Ranas gang. In addition to implementing D.G.’s orders, Loza allegedly executed another member of the Mexican Mafia who wanted to expand his influence and challenge D.G.’s authority over street gangs in the San Gabriel Valley.

    Nelson Nolasco was sentenced today to 420 months in prison by United States District Judge I. Leo Glasser at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn. In the middle of his jury trial held in November 2011, Nolasco pleaded guilty to robbery conspiracy, cocaine trafficking conspiracy, and firearm charges.
